Ford Hits Pause on CD Players

Know what was missing from the new MacBook Air ultra-thin notebook? An optical hard drive (a.k.a. a CD player). It was also absent from Apple's new-gen Mac mini desktop. Forebringers of things to come, the decision not to include CD-players in these devices signifies that the lyric-filled, shiny discs are going the way of LPs, eight tracks, records and tapes. Ford, in fact represents the first automaker to move toward completely eliminating the antiquated music-playing devices from its cars.
The transition toward, pure digital technology, will begin in models available in Europe. The process will take time, but it's clear - the CD is fading away. In fact, Ford reports approximately 2-million Blue Oval models will have its Sync system by 2015, rather than a CD player.
When will Ford take CD players out of models available in the U.S.? That remains to be seen. According to Ralf Brosig, Ford of Europe Multimedia Manager, "...Ford will obviously continue to offer CD players while there is demand. However, over time, we expect customer preferences will lead us quickly into an all-digital approach to in-car audio entertainment."1
In the future, Ford drivers will increasingly rely on Sync and MyFord Touch. Among the many safe and convenient features of Sync and MyFord Touch are the ability to access and change digital music libraries while keeping your hands on the steering wheel and you eyes on the road.
Soooo...What do you think? Are you ready to go 100-percent digital? Maybe you think it's overdue. Or, do you think it's too soon? Bayer Ford, located at 200 E Central Ave, Comanche, TX, wants to know. Please send us a comment when you can.
